Animal Collective - “Brothersport”
This song makes me so happy. It’s just a feeling of total bliss, right when it kicks in (at around :58). All day all I could think was “this is the most amazing thing I’ve ever heard.” Yeah, I know, I say that about a lot of things, but this is truly incredible. It’s been a while since a song has made me smile like this (every time I listen to it, and it’s been on repeat all day); it’s not easy to make perfect pop happiness from chaos and noise, but they did it here.
If you’re unfamiliar with Animal Collective, their new album Merriweather Post Pavilion comes out tomorrow on vinyl and I know I’m going to run and get it ASAP. It’s hard to describe their music, since they’ve been called everything from noise pop and avant-gard to freak folk and experimental psychadelic whatever. The truth is there’s no one like them, and when they get a song right (Did You See The Words, For Reverend Green), it’s right. It’s right. Repeat.
